Adult Community Orchestra
with Valery Saul
Founded in 1998 at the University of Arkansas Little Rock, the Community Orchestra is now a part of the Education & Community Outreach arm of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra (ASOCO) provides a once-a-week musical experience in a positive and nurturing environment for amateur musicians. All experience levels are welcome and no auditions are required. The ASOCO meets weekly to rehearse a wide variety of orchestral music and presents concerts twice a year for family, friends and the public.
Youth Chamber Ensembles
with ASO Coaches
The Youth Chamber Ensembles program gives young musicians the opportunity to enhance their musical development by studying and performing chamber music under the guidance of professional instructors. Instrumentation varies depending on the repertoire, which includes a mix of strings, woodwinds, brass, harp, and piano. Coached by our expert faculty, students learn standard repertoire and contemporary music through bi-weekly coaching, independent rehearsals, and performances.
ASOYE and String Academy students are encouraged to register, as being in a chamber ensemble not only strengthens individual musicianship and ensemble skills, but also fosters leadership, collaboration, and community engagement - values at the core of ASO’s mission.
- Ensembles meet weekly from February through mid-May (times scheduled around participant’s availability)
- Ensembles will be coached twice a month (1 hour per session) and will rehearse independently twice a month.
- Ensembles will perform on the winter and spring recitals.
- Apply as a pre-formed group or be placed with a group that has a similar skill level.
Summer Strings Camp
with Katherine Williamson
Ages: 4 - 18
ASO Summer Strings is a summer program for string students of all ages and ability levels, including beginners. Participants will receive daily instruction from a world-class faculty that includes ASYO directors, String academy teachers and members of the ASO. The program is two weeks long in June. Students will be placed in one of two orchestras, enjoy theory classes or All-Region prep courses, instrument ensembles, as well as a performance from faculty and a final student recital.
This is a great option to continue studies after an invigorating String Academy semester or to get ready for the fall school year. The daily schedule takes our students to the next level and fortifies musical friendships that will help to foster young enthusiasm. This is also a great next step for any Intro to Violin students looking to continue with their studies.
Use code EARLY BIRD 2026 for $50 off registration through April 30. Tuition will be $375 on May 1.
